Future of flowers collection.
The Future of Flowers Collection challenges what it is to be a man, by not conforming to toxic masculinity tropes and stereotypes. Young males increasingly face identity confusion and pressures to act a certain way, we need to cherish, shape and direct the future of these delicate flowers.
Eliot W. Everton has created a collection of natural beauties with the intention of a unisex appeal, creating a market of flowers for men. His debut collection explores themes of traditional gender stereotypes. The work references to the association between floral motifs and natural femininity through the last one-hundred years of fashion, film and western culture.
The collection features a range of jewellery pieces from rings to bracelets cast in solid 925 silver and 9-24 karat gold. The pieces are heavily textured and carry some weight to them creating a juxtaposition within their form, despite their brutish physique, flourish as pieces of art.
THE HOUSE
“The House is Haunted, That house there.
The House is Haunted, Look at his Glare.
The House is haunted, He’s not very fair.”
THE YARD
“The yard is more than a place where weeds grow, your bins stew and your bike rusts. It’s a place of commune. where the birds chirp, the plants flourish and the animals come together in harmony, human and fox alike.”
THE ESTATE
“I live above you but don’t know your name,
I see you with your shopping but don’t give you a hand.
We walk the same way and we shop at the same places,
But these social norms got me anxious and paranoid about the faces.
I take my headphones off when I pass you,
In hope of interaction, I make eye contact but pass swiftly.
Your stature and bag drooped eyes command respect,
Your shopping pulls your already hunched back lower to the ground.
Are we neighbours?”
